Ausmedia R2A Agar 10 plates/pack
Quantity:
Ausmedia R2A Agar plates are a specialized, low-nutrient culture medium used primarily for the enumeration of heterotrophic bacteria in potable and purified water. They are designed to recover stressed or slow-growing organisms that might be missed by traditional, nutrient-rich media.
Product Details & Usage
• Primary Use: R2A Agar is a standard method for testing the bacterial condition of drinking water, bottled water, and pharmaceutical-grade water. Its low-nutrient composition mimics natural water environments and allows for the recovery of chlorine-damaged bacteria.
• Composition: The medium contains a mix of nutrients, including yeast extract, peptones, glucose, soluble starch, sodium pyruvate, and magnesium sulfate. The final pH is approximately 7.2.
• Incubation: Unlike other media, R2A Agar often requires a longer incubation period (typically 5-7 days at a lower temperature of 20-28°C) to allow slow-growing bacteria to form visible colonies, although faster results (44-72 hours at 35-37°C) are possible.
• Method: It is suitable for various microbiological procedures, including pour plate, spread plate, and membrane filtration methods
