Brain Heart Infusion Agar, HiVeg / (with 1% Agar) is a solid medium recommended for the cultivation of fastidious pathogenic bacteria, yeasts and moulds.
Ingredients:
HiVeg special infusion: 7.5 g/L
HiVeg infusion: 10 g/L
HiVeg peptone No.3: 10 g/L
Dextrose (Glucose): 2 g/L
Sodium chloride: 5 g/L
Disodium hydrogen phosphate: 2.5 g/L
Agar: 15 g/L
Final pH ( at 25°C): 7.4±0.2
Quality Control:
Appearance: Cream to yellow homogenous free flowing powder
Gelling: Firm, comparable with 1.5% Agar gel
Colour and clarity of prepared medium: Basal medium : Light amber coloured clear to slightly opalescent gel. After addition of 5% v/v sterile defibrinated blood :
Cherry red coloured, opaque gel forms in Petri plates.
